- Programs for Gifted Students

Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP)

The Talent Search is now beginning its twenty-ninth year and is the largest program of its kind in the nation, representing participation from 6,000 junior high and middle schools in the Duke TIP 16-state region.

To parents of qualifying gifted students, information will be mailed to you this week (09/08/08). If you do not receive anything by Monday, September 15, 2008, please contact Emily Boatright at eboatright@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

Who is eligible to participate in the talent search?

To be eligible a student must:
  • Be a current 7th grader (or current 8th grader who skipped 7th grade) either in public, private, or home school;
  • Live or attend school in Duke TIP's 16-state region (Georgia is included)
  • Have scored at the 95th percentile or higher on the national norms of a grade-level standardized achievement, aptitude, mental ability, or an approved state criterion-referenced test.
  • Either of the two most recent test administrations may be used, and a student need only qualify in one subtest. (Iowa Test of Basic Skills).

The Challenge Explosion Program

Saturday School for Scholars

Throughout the year, Saturday School for Scholars and Leaders help gifted children learn about the world. Our courses help students broaden their knowledge base, from the hard sciences to the fine and applied arts. We believe that intelligence is more than just knowing - the truly intelligent person knows, but more importantly knows how!
