- ELT Cluster Rotation #1

You Write the Hits!
ELT classes are excitedly working to produce a book that will reflect their songwriting/playwriting abilities. The book will contain all original materials written from the perspective of Inman Middle School students. The children have been enjoying the process of creating their own works from the first day and the experience is proving to be challenging, yet fun!

Billy Blanks, Richard Simmons, and YOU!
For the past few weeks in ELT, students have put together various types of fitness oriented projects. Students have worked with their cluster to produce a video, skit, routine, etc. associated with fitness. So who knows, you may be witnessing the birth of the next Billy Blanks right here at Inman.

Social Action/Volunteering
  • 6th grade: Fundraiser of some sort (TBD) and education for Nothing But Nets
  • 7th grade: Hold a walk to raise money and awareness for the World Wildlife Federation
  • 8th grade: Have a 5-day raffle to raise money and awareness for a local animal cause (TBD).

Travel
6th Grade: They have decided to create both a travel guide and a commercial focused on Greece. The students have created, and filled, such roles as Project Manager, Costume Designer, Producer, Researcher, Graphic Designer, and Director, to name a few. They have been very excited and involved from the first day they met.

7th Grade: They have decided to create a commercial and food dishes/recipe book focused on Jamaica. The students have created and filled similar roles as the 6th grade. They seemed very reluctant on the first day to jump into the project, but they have all expertly jumped into their roles and taken charge of their own project. They are extremely excited about making the commercial about Greece and already designing their mythological costumes.

8th Grade: The students in this group were very involved from the moment they met. They have decided to create a commercial and food dishes/recipe book focused on the SE United States. The group has some strong leaders who are taking the project very seriously and rallying their peers to stay focused and on track. They have started sketching their set design and are also very excited about compiling Southern recipes and making the commercial.

Calling All Gamers
  • 6th grade: Book on sports past and present - Video on Football
  • 7th grade: Basketball Video
  • 8th grade: Rule book for Footsketball - Volleyball Video

Let’s Party!
6th Grade: Fall Bash! Students will do a 10 min. rotation with the other ELT classes and put on a fall celebration. Students are in groups of different planning committees, such as, Goodie Bag, Baked Goods, Movie, Decorating and Music Committees. It is a theme gathering, so the movie chosen and music mix will be about the upcoming season with a bit of Halloween mixed in.

7th Grade: A Cupcake Decorating Gathering for Ms. Godfrey's Class! Students in this ELT will partner up with a student from Ms. Godfrey's and decorate a cupcake. They will bring in cupcake decor trimmings, and afterwards, everyone will get to eat their cupcake. Students are on committees as well, such as, the Decorating, Goodie Bag, and Music Committee. Students will also spend an hour of one of their ELT classes and go over and get to know the student they are going to work with.

8th Grade: A Fundraiser Gathering of the 8th Grade Students! This group will have baked goods, music, and a donation event of all the 8th graders to raise money for a student scholarship for a particular 8th grade fieldtrip (has not been chosen yet). There will be a committee of students who will inform the 8th grade students of this fundraiser on announcements and lunch prior the event. The other ELT classes will come in on 10 min. rotations to visit.

Communication By Design
The communication by design class is busy at work producing PodCasts that showcase the students’ research and knowledge of the current Presidential election. Each class is working to produce both informative and entertaining multi-media presentations in the MP4 format about the candidates, the campaign and the current state of affairs of the American political system.

Colorful Creations
6th Grade:
  • Group 1 is separated into three small groups. Each group is working to create their own comic book.
  • Group 2 is one group that is working to put together a large canvas painting made from smaller canvas paintings.

7th Grade is working as a class to create a 60x72 canvas painting to display permanently in the cafeteria. The painting will consist of 12 individual pictures placed on different color backgrounds.

8th Grade is working to create a fabric banner to hang at all of the athletic events. They will be making the banner from fabric and piecing it together by hand

What’s It All About? Books, Authors, and More
8th Grade: They are developing websites, electronic presentations, brochures and posters about their favorite books, authors, genres, characters, and much more. They will be describing some of their favorite stories and characters as they see them. Others will share their opinions of the author and the books the author has produced. Students will use their own imaginations to describe some of their favorite reads.

7th Grade: They have gone “outside the box” to find some of their favorite authors on which to base their projects. Well known television personalities and best selling celebrities are some of the authors that the seventh graders have chosen for projects. Electronic presentations and video interviews (skits) are some of the formats students have chosen to present their favorite book related subjects.

6th Grade: All sixth graders in ELT have chosen their favorite books or authors on which to base their projects. Many are choosing electronic formats in which to present their final projects to the class. Popular authors like Stephanie Meyer, R.L. Stine, and Scott Westerfield are just some of the well known names that will be part of the final class presentation. Other students have chosen some of their favorite books or favorite genres to share with their classmates.

Lights, Camera, Action….

FOREIGN FILM VENTURE

They say film is a language, so what about seeing movies in another language?

Inman students are viewing a 1997 Iranian film in the Farsi language with subtitles, “Children of Heaven.” On each grade level their efforts are in progress as they decide how to interpret and represent the film. With a mission to promote foreign film viewing to a larger audience, the students have formed a film distribution / promotion company. Now they’re putting a creative spin on their output: designing a company logo; creating a movie poster; writing film reviews, and educating peers about Iranian culture. The film production teams are very busy!
